How to use StudyLab24 Typing
Everything the app can do, in plain language โ takes about four minutes to read.
1. Choosing a track and level
The sidebar on the typing test page has three tracks:
English
25 Beginner, 20 Expert and 20 Advanced passages โ general knowledge, current affairs and long-form prose.
เคนเคฟเคเคฆเฅ (Hindi)
Devanagari passages across three levels, for students who need Hindi typing speed for exams or office work.
Code
Real Python, JavaScript, C++ and SQL snippets with proper indentation โ great practice for developers.
Pick a level (Beginner / Expert / Advanced) and click any lesson in the list to load it instantly โ your progress on the current lesson is discarded when you switch.
2. Starting a test
Click anywhere inside the passage box (or press Enter/Space while it's focused). A 3-second countdown gives you time to place your hands, then the box is ready โ your first keystroke starts the timer. Net WPM, accuracy, CPM and errors all update live as you go.
3. Test mode vs Practice mode
Test mode runs for a fixed duration (5, 10 or 15 minutes) and ends automatically, or when you finish the passage. Practice mode has no timer pressure โ it just tracks your stats while you type at your own pace, and you finish whenever you like.
4. Custom text
Click "โ๏ธ Custom text", paste in up to 3,000 characters of your own material โ an article, a script, anything โ and practice typing exactly that. Useful if you want to rehearse a specific document.
5. Daily Challenge
Every day, everyone who opens Daily Challenge gets the exact same Expert-level passage (5 minutes). It resets at midnight, so you can compare your result with classmates or friends who took the same test that day. Your completion and score for today are remembered even if you close the tab.
6. Ghost Race
Once you've completed at least one test on a given track, level and duration, that run is saved as your "ghost." Starting a Ghost Race loads the same passage type and shows a dashed line on the live graph representing your ghost's pace, so you can see in real time whether you're ahead or behind your own best. Beat it, and a new ghost is saved automatically. This is a personal benchmark, not a live multiplayer race โ StudyLab24 Typing doesn't have real-time opponents (yet), so "racing" here always means racing your past self.
7. Reading your gauges
- Net WPM โ gross words per minute (5 characters = 1 word) minus a penalty for errors per minute. This is the industry-standard way typing speed is measured, including in most government exam rules.
- Accuracy โ percentage of characters typed correctly so far.
- CPM โ characters per minute, the metric used in some government/data-entry typing tests instead of WPM.
- Error heatmap โ after you've made a few mistakes, the on-screen keyboard highlights exactly which keys you miss most, from light (low) to dark red (critical), so you know what to drill.
8. After you finish
Your result screen shows a badge (from ๐ฐ Starting Line to ๐ Velocity Master), a mistake replay of every character you got wrong, and three actions: Try again, Get certificate (downloads a PNG you can share or print), and Share result (uses your device's native share sheet, or copies text to your clipboard).
9. Your data
Everything โ your theme, sound preference, session history, personal bests and ghost runs โ is stored only in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to a server, so your stats are private to this device. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
10. Keyboard shortcuts
- Backspace โ fix the last character you typed
- Esc โ pause or resume an in-progress test
- Tab โ restart the current lesson
